Prerequisite of massage therapy, structural integration, or Rolfing certification, physical or occupational therapy degree, advanced trainer/instructor or similar required.

Joe holds the distinction of being chosen to participate in the first Muscle Activation Techniques Certification, and was one of the first MAT Specialists in the country. Utilizing his expensive experience, Joe has formulated The Kistner Method, A Neurological Approach to Musculoskeletal Dysfunction, and has enjoyed marked success in being service to his patients.

Joe Kistner has been a student of bodywork and therapeutic massage for over 30 years. Along with his wife Lisa, he is the co-founder of the Kistner Institute in Aspen, Colorado. He holds many certifications including Healthy Foot Practitioner, Barefoot Training Specialist, and Z-Health R, I, and T Certifications. He attended Boulder School of Massage in 1983 and has studied a variety of massage modalities such as Orthopedic and Sports Massage, St. John Neuromuscular Therapy, Orthobionomy, Cranial Sacral/technique, and many others.
